#STREATTALK: FRINGEATS EDITION

#STREATTALK: FRINGEATS EDITION

Like every August, the Fringe Festival is bringing talented artists and colourful shows from all over the world to the Scottish capital.

The Fringe Festival is also an occasion to taste some of the best street food on offer in Scotland, with dozens of vans and trailers crowding squares and parks.

Here we have gathered our favourite street food companies trading at Edinburgh Fringe 2018 for you to try!

CREMA CARAVAN

Your location: We are on Charles street, the pedestrian street between Bristo Sq and George Sq.

Your opening times: We're open from 11am until 10pm from Monday to Thursday, and from 11am until 11pm from Friday to Sunday.

Your menu/Fringe specials: Our menu changes daily, you can check our instagram stories for updates!

Top Fringe Tip: despite best intentions we’ve been too busy to see shows!

MIMI'S BAKEHOUSE

Your Location: We have two stalls at the Fringe. Our cabin is in Bristo Square and our van is parked up at George Square.

Your opening times: We're open from 10am until late every day, except Sundays when we open at 11am.

Your menu/ Fringe specials: Our two pop-ups have different offerings. If you pop by our van you can get a coffee, iced drink, cake or St. Lucas ice cream in a tub, cookie sandwich or a cake sundae. At Bristo, we're busy serving up our famous French Toast, milkshakes, cake shakes and scoops of St. Lucas ice cream.

Top Fringe Tip: Our show recommendation is "Don't Tell Me Not To Fly" with west end stars in the beautiful newly refurbished McEwan Hall.

WANDERERS KNEADED

Your location: We are at Meadow place every day (south of middle Meadow Walk) and occasionally at Portobello Promenade.

Your opening times: Everyday from 12 until 8:30pm (when we don't have other events).

Your menu/ Fringe specials: Our current menu features our classic Margherita, "Kale is the new black" with Kale, guanciale (cheek lard) and Grana Padano, "Don't tell the countryman" with gorgonzola, pears and honey roasted walnuts, "Never too late to break bad" with foodwired slow roasted pulled pork, scamorza and friarielli (broccoli rabe), "Surf & Turf", guanciale wrapped king prawn with home made pesto, and "Deconstructed Guac" with avocado, chillies and veggies.

Top Fringe Tip: We recommend seeing Foil Arms and Hog's show!

FIRE AND DOUGH

Your location: We are trading at Summerhall, a vibrant courtyard, alongside Rost, Barney’s beer, and Pickering's Gin.

Your opening times: We are open from 12pm until 2am.

Your menu/ Fringe specials: Besides our usual menu, during the fringe we are doing a special with fresh figs (the ‘figura’) as they are perfectly in season - fig, goats cheese, rocket & balsamic glaze. We’re trading alongside Rost, Barney’s beer, and Pickering's Gin in a vibrant courtyard.

Top Fringe Tip: We’d recommend Pussy Riot: Riot Days.

JONES AND SON:

Your location: I’m doing a night time pop-up at a coffee shop called Century General Store in Montrose Terrace.

Your opening times: We are open from Wednesday to Sunday from 6pm until 10pm.

Your menu/ Fringe specials: We have our classic cheeseburgers, but also buttermilk chicken, a panic mushroom burger, buffalo chicken wings and a special double cheeseburger with black pudding!

Top Fringe Tip: You should definitely go see Mr Thing, a high energy talk show format with a house band.

MOO PIE GELATO

Your location: We are based at Food and Flea along with a bunch of other fabby traders.

Your opening times: We are open daily from 11am until 10pm.

Your menu/ Fringe specials: We are offering scoops and sammies. Gelato wise, we change it up daily. So far our favourite scoops have been Salted Caramel, 72% Chocolate, Fresh Mint Stracciatella, Strawberry and Balsamic Ripple, Fortitudes Coffee and Barney's Stout with a Chocolate Ripple.

Top Fringe Tip: Fireside are showing some quality free Fringe performances and have some banging street food on offer. Would definitely recommend!
